Using the NovaStores Point of Sale Terminal
The NovaStores Point of Sale (POS) terminal allows you to process in-person sales, manage cash sessions, and track inventory for your physical store locations. It's designed to be fast, intuitive, and reliable, even in offline conditions.
Accessing the POS Terminal
- From your NovaStores dashboard, open the search bar (Cmd+K or Ctrl+K).
- Type "POS" and select "POS Terminal" from the results. The terminal will open in a new browser tab.
Starting a Cash Session
Before you can make sales with cash, you need to open a cash session. This helps track your daily cash flow.

If prompted, enter the starting cash amount in your drawer (e.g., your float).

Click the "Start Session" button. Your terminal status will change to "Shift Open".
Note: To manage cash sessions, your staff account needs the 'Manage Cash Sessions' permission. If you cannot start a session, check your staff permissions.
Processing a Sale
- Add Products: Tap on any product in the grid on the left to add it to the customer's cart. If a product has options (like size or color), a small window will appear for you to select them before adding.
- Adjust Quantities: In the cart (right panel), use the plus (+) or minus (-) buttons next to an item to change its quantity. Tap the 'X' button to remove an item.
- Select Payment: Choose 'Cash' or 'Card' from the payment options at the bottom of the cart.
- Complete Order: Click the large "Pay" button. The order will be processed and reflected in your store's sales records.
Closing a Cash Session
At the end of a shift, close your cash session to reconcile your physical cash with recorded sales.
- In the left navigation area (desktop) or settings tab (mobile), click the "End Current Session" button.
- A window will appear asking for the total cash counted in your drawer.
- Enter the actual physical cash amount. Be as precise as possible.
- Click "Close Session".
- A summary will display, showing your starting balance, cash sales, expected balance, and any variance (the difference between expected and counted cash). This summary helps identify any discrepancies.
- You can then choose to "Start New Session" immediately or return to the dashboard.
Offline Mode
If your internet connection becomes unstable, the NovaStores POS terminal will automatically switch to offline mode. You can continue to process sales, and orders will be saved locally on your device. Once your internet connection is restored, all queued orders will automatically sync with your NovaStores dashboard.
