SoundScript is a Chrome extension that converts your voice into text inside any input field on the web, with customizable commands, keyboard shortcuts, and multi-language support. This Privacy Policy outlines our commitment to protecting your privacy.

1. Data Collection

SoundScript does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal data, browsing history, or audio recordings. Voice is processed in real time by the browser's built-in Speech Recognition API and is never sent to our servers.

2. How the Extension Works

All voice capture, transcription, text replacement, and input insertion happen locally on your device within your browser. Your custom replacements, keyboard commands, and language preferences are stored in Chrome's local storage on your machine.

3. Optional Account Sync

If you choose to sign in with your Google account, SoundScript uses Google Identity solely to authenticate you and sync your own settings (custom replacements, keyboard commands, language preferences) across your browser profiles via Firebase Firestore. We only access your basic profile email; no contacts, files, or other Google data are touched. You can use the extension fully without signing in.

4. Permissions Used

  • Microphone: Required to capture your voice for transcription by the browser's Speech Recognition API.
  • storage: Used to save your custom text replacements, keyboard commands, and language preferences locally.
  • identity: Used only if you opt in to Google sign-in so your settings can sync across your browser profiles.
  • activeTab & tabs: Used to identify the tab and input field where transcribed text should be inserted, even across window or tab focus changes.
  • scripting: Used to inject the text-insertion logic into the page you are dictating into.
  • Host Permissions (<all_urls>): Required so that SoundScript can insert dictated text into input fields on any website you choose to use it on.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell or share your data with third parties. We do not use your data for advertising, credit-worthiness assessments, or any purpose unrelated to the core feature of the extension.
